Younger Eyes for a More Youthful You
The eyes are a window to our souls, but sometimes the effects of ageing and the heaviness of excess skin on the upper eyelid can cause the eyelid to droop, obstruct vision, cause irritation or impede that special someone’s ability to see into your sparkling eyes.
Those busy nights in the office and spending hours upon hours on the computer or smartphone, leave our eyes feeling heavy and tired. Those constantly tired eyes can leave unsightly eye bags which are difficult to get rid of. At White Hill Clinic in Sydney blepharoplasty is used to revitalise the eyes and has been performed by our surgeons for more than 3 years. Our team is committed to giving you the professional and high-quality care you need to achieve a more comfortable and youthful appearance.
What is Blepharoplasty?
Blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) is a popular cosmetic procedure that removes excess skin and fat from the upper eyelid to reduce drooping and reverse the signs of ageing or removes skin and tissue from the lower eyelid to reduce puffiness and bags to rejuvenate the face.
This type of cosmetic surgery can alter the appearance of the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both. The aim is to improve the appearance of the area surrounding the eyes. The goal of blepharoplasty is to create a natural-looking shape that compliments your face. Blepharoplasty can alter:
- Bags under the eyes
- Extra skin and fine wrinkles of the lower eyelid
- Excess fatty deposits that appear as puffiness beneath the eyelid skin
- Droopiness of the lower eyelids – to avoid showing white below the iris
- Loose or sagging skin that creates folds or disturbs the natural contour of the upper eyelid – this can sometimes affect a person’s vision
Eligibility for Blepharoplasty
Good candidates for upper eyelid surgery are often people who have excess fat in their eyelids and/or have droopy eyelids that bother them. The excess fat may cause puffiness, or there may be loose skin that creates folds which can detrimentally affect the natural shape of the eyelid or even impair vision in some cases. Good candidates for blepharoplasty may also have bags or wrinkles under their eyes, and lower eyelids may be droopy too.
People with crows feet or drooping eyebrows should NOT consider upper eyelid surgery. Also, anyone with a dry eye condition or any other eye-related disease or infection should not have a blepharoplasty procedure performed. Otherwise, people who are good candidates for upper eyelid surgery are generally in good health and do not smoke or have any serious medical condition. They will also have realistic expectations for the surgery and are not looking for a “miracle” with this procedure.

Your Sydney Blepharoplasty Procedure
Blepharoplasty procedures are generally outpatient procedures, meaning you would usually be able to return home on the day of their surgery.
The procedure typically lasts between one and three hours depending on the complexity of the operation and your specific needs. At White Hill Clinic, every procedure we perform is tailored specifically to the needs of each patient, so the exact process you experience may vary. Incisions are made along the natural creases in the eyelid.
This helps conceal any scarring that may develop after the procedure and usually leads to a more aesthetically pleasing result. Once the incisions are made, excess skin and fat will be removed, and remaining muscle and tendon tissues may be reinforced. Sutures are usually used to close the incisions, and proper care is taken to promote a speedy and full recovery.

What to expect during blepharoplasty
surgery recovery
After your upper eyelid surgery, you can expect to see swelling, bruising, and tenderness typical with any surgical procedure. You should plan to rest and take measures to reduce swelling as recommended by your doctor in the days immediately following your procedure.
These conditions generally subside in one to two weeks. Depending on the type of sutures used in your procedure, they may need to be removed or they may dissolve on their own. The recovery process depends in large part on the care taken to keep the surgery site clean and free of infections, as well as the anatomical condition and resilience of the surrounding tissues and your skin’s natural elasticity.
Each patient’s recovery process will vary, but, in general, full, stable results from your blepharoplasty will be realised after a few months. Consulting before-and-after photographs is an excellent way to fully appreciate your results. Depending on your customised surgical plan, your doctor will schedule follow-up visits as needed.
Your Sydney blepharoplasty results
We expect excellent results following recovery from your upper eyelid surgery. After swelling has subsided and any scars have faded away, you should notice a visible reduction in puffiness or sagging in the upper eyelid.
Any impairments to your vision should be gone, and you will notice an overall improved, more youthful appearance. There is some variation between patients, but usually the positive effects of blepharoplasty are permanent.
