What is a Brow Lift?
A brow lift, sometimes called a forehead lift or browplasty, is a procedure that can be an effective way to remove the deep wrinkles that can appear across your forehead.
Over the years our expressions of excitement, happiness and worry, can cause the area around the forehead and eyebrow to wrinkle, lose elasticity and its youthful, tight appearance. The harmful effects of the sun can have a compounding effect on the lines of your skin, in addition to the pull of gravity on your face over the years causing muscle laxity. When this happens, it can leave you looking older than you actually are and feeling insecure in your own skin.
As we age, our skin loses elasticity and one of the places that it’s most noticeable is around the eye brows. For some people this isn’t a big deal, for others it can leave them looking angry all the time. By making incisions in your forehead and pulling the skin up, your face will stop portraying emotions like anger and hostility and you’ll go back to looking the way you did when you were younger.
What does a Brow Lift do?
Using the technique determined to be best for your situation, the surgeon is able to adjust the skin and underlying tissues that span the forehead. Excess skin can be removed if necessary, leaving behind a smooth, youthful, and natural look.
The goal of brow lift surgery is to create a natural and more neutral looking brow so that people will no longer assume you’re feeling anger toward them. The brow lift procedure gives the client a natural, reinvigorated appearance (almost akin to the reversal of time) without making the face look “stretched out” or artificially moulded.
A brow lift procedure, also known as a forehead lift, is a surgical procedure that can reduce those wrinkle or “worry” lines that have developed across the forehead and lift drooping eyebrows to leave you looking, rejuvenated and youthful again. If you want to wind back the clock and look as young as you feel, come and see Dr Rizk and his talented Sydney plastic surgery team for a consultation.
Dr Rizk advocates the National Law and Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) guidelines that any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.
Brow Lift Benefits
At White Hill Clinic in Sydney brow lift surgery can significantly improve the appearance of the forehead and eyebrow region. Some of the benefits of the procedure include:
- A reduction in wrinkles across the forehead, between the eyes, and even on the bridge of the nose
- Tighten and strengthen the skin and underlying tissues
- Elevate sagging brows
- Create an alert and youthful look
- Long-lasting results
Some forms of chemical or neuromodulator procedures can provide similar results. While typically less expensive and less intensive, these treatments do not offer a long-term solution, especially when the negative effects of ageing are more pronounced.
Not Sure if You're a Good Candidate for Brow Lift? Book a Consultation With Dr. Rizk
Am I a Candidate for a Brow Lift?
Ideal candidates are in good health overall, non-smokers, and have realistic goals and expectations. Having a generally good skin condition with sufficient resilience and elasticity is also important. Make sure to talk to Dr Rizk about your complete medical history, as it is essential to reducing the risk of complications and allergic reactions to anesthesia.
You may be a good candidate if you have any complaints about your appearance like these:
- Horizontal wrinkles across your forehead
- Deep creases
- Frown lines between your eyebrows (also known as “worry lines,” “glabellar lines,” or “11 lines”)
- Sagging eyebrows that may hood the eyes or interfere with ocular function
- Asymmetrical eyebrows
Types of Brow Lifts
There are many techniques that can be utilised for this procedure. The right one for you depends on your current condition and goals for the procedure. During your consultation for a brow lift Sydney plastic surgeon Dr Joseph Rizk will help you determine which method will fit your needs the best.
Traditional
Traditional forehead lifts involve making larger incisions that allow the skin and tissue to be repositioned. These methods are defined by where the incision is made.
- Coronal — across the top of the head
- Petrichial — along the hairline
- Mid-brow — between the eyebrows
- Direct — within the eyebrows
Endoscopic
With an endoscopic procedure, small incisions are made in several places around the forehead. A set of pencil-shaped tools are then used to access the structures under the skin and allow for repositioning and reshaping. This technique can result in fewer and smaller scars and typically requires less recovery time.
Your Procedure
The exact procedure you undergo will depend on the technique you and Dr Rizk choose. All of our procedures are performed as outpatient treatments in our state-of-the-art clinic in Sydney.
First, you’ll be positioned comfortably in your private room and placed under anesthesia. Once it has taken effect, Dr Rizk will perform the procedure as outlined in your customised surgery plan. Skin and tissue will be tightened, removed, and repaired. Finally, the incisions will be closed, and you’ll gently be brought out of sedation.
Your Recovery
Like your surgery plan, your recovery will be unique to you. During the first week, it will be important to rest and take care of your forehead as it heals. Initial recovery typically requires 10-14 days of downtime, but most patients are able to return to their regular daily routines after this time. Complete healing can take a few months.
Dr Rizk will provide you with detailed instructions on how to care for your rejuvenated forehead as it heals. He will also give you prescriptions for any medications for infection prevention and pain management that may be necessary.
Your Results
You should notice results immediately, but once the swelling and redness have subsided and any scars have refined and faded, you will be able to fully enjoy your new, youthful look. Results are unique to each patient, so keep in mind that your results may not exactly match someone else’s.
How Long Will Your Results Last?
Results typically last for many years. Facial skin can eventually begin to sag again and sun damage will cause ageing effects, so proper skin care and a healthy lifestyle are key to extending the results from your forehead lift as long as possible.
